How to collaborate in your browser

Use a Peerdraft link from a collaborator to work on their notes directly in your browser. You do not need an account or an Obsidian installation to join.

Open the shared material

  1. Open the link your collaborator sent you.
  2. If it opens a shared folder, select a note from the file list on the left. An individual note link opens that note directly.
  3. To let others recognize your edits, click your name in the top-right corner. Replace the generated Anonymous name in Your name, and choose a cursor color if you want.

If the link does not open the expected material, ask the sender to copy the current share URL from Peerdraft and send it again.

Edit a note together

  1. Click in the note where you want to make a change and start typing.
  2. To emphasize text, select it and press Ctrl+B on Windows or Linux, or Command+B on a Mac. Use the same shortcut again to remove the bold formatting.
  3. Keep working in the same note while your collaborators edit. Their cursors and selections identify where they are working.

Your edits synchronize automatically with connected collaborators, including those using Obsidian. There is no Save button for note edits.

Use Markdown for formatting. For example:

## Next steps

Please review the **updated proposal**.

- [ ] Check the figures
- [ ] Agree on a date

For syntax and rendering details, see Supported Markdown features.

Leave a comment in the note

To leave feedback alongside the text, write it between %% markers:

The meeting is on Friday. %%Can we confirm the time?%%

For a longer comment, put the markers on separate lines:

%%
Please review the figures before we share this draft.
The final section still needs a conclusion.
%%

Comments fold to a comment icon or summary when you move your cursor away. Click the icon or summary to read a comment; click its text to edit it. Comments are part of the shared note, so collaborators can read and change them too.

In a shared folder, select another file from the sidebar or follow a link inside a note. To read an embedded note in full, click its corner badge to open the source note.

  • Select an image or PDF to view it. If your browser cannot preview a PDF, use Open PDF or Download.
  • Select an audio or video file to use the browser’s playback controls, when the format is supported.
  • For a Word document or another file without a preview, choose Download and open it in your usual application. Editing a downloaded copy does not update the shared file.

If an attachment is missing, ask the sender to include it in the shared folder and enable its file extension. They can follow How to share notes and attachments.

Add a note to a shared folder

If you need a separate note for your contribution:

  1. Click New beside the shared folder’s name.
  2. Enter the note’s name and choose its folder using Path or the folder picker.
  3. Click Create, then write your note.

The new note appears in the shared folder for your collaborators too.

Return to the shared work

Bookmark the link to open the material again. For a persistent share, you can return later even when the sender is not online. For a fleeting session, arrange to work while the sender keeps the session open. See Fleeting vs. Persistent Shares if you need to check which kind of link you received.
